This entry was initially published on my personal blog on September 11, 2006. The day before Littlebit was born. I thought it was fitting to include it here as we prepare to leave to have Baby Bee because it still encompasses many of the emotions I’m feeling right now.

Delivery day, that is. After many long discussions, Big Daddy and I decided to take our doctor’s offers to induce and Littlebit will be born sometime tomorrow. We have an 8 a.m. at the hospital to get things started. Since I’ve managed to make some progress on my own (nearly 4 cm now) hopefully tomorrow won’t be as long as the Princess’s birth was (18 hours from water breaking to birth).

The house is ready. The clothes are washed, the bags are packed, the bassinet is set up, the swing is ready, things are washed, the film is loaded. We have some last minute things to do today–packing the Princess for her time with Grandma. Making sure the house is tidy.

It was bittersweet last night, tucking the Princess into bed. The clock is ticking now and tomorrow we won’t be a family of three anymore. While I look forward to Littlebit and bing a family of four and seeing the Princess be a sister. I’ve loved us as a family of three so much and it’s a little sad to see that pass by us. That who we’ve been for six year plus stops tomorrow. And that sort of change is a little overwhelming to say the last.

i think the Princess is lamenting that a little as well. She’s trying to be happy, but I think she has mixed feelings about what this new person will do to her life. I can’t blame her. As much as we reassure here that not everything will change, we can’t tell her that everything is going to stay the same for her. And she’s smart and she knows that.

Yesterday morning the Princess hopped into bed with us to be monkey in the middle. I told her that, even with Littlebit, she could still be monkey in the middle. She accepted that and said, yes, but Littlebit will be here too. And she’s right.

The next time we post, it will be with pictures of our new girl and our girls together. I can’t wait to take that picture.

Wish us luck!

Two weeks before her due date and five days before her induction date.

I LOVE the idea.

The National Endowment for the Arts is sponsoring a program called “The Big Read” to restore reading as a part of the national culture. How cool!

My biggest beef, usually, with “must” read lists, is that they’re very very long. For quick readers, like me, it might make that list seem a bit daunting, but doable, but for slower readers, the task would seem insurmountable.

The NEA’s recommended list is comprised of thirty works and includes poetry, plays, fantasy and even short stories. A well rounded group.

I only discovered the NEAs efforts when adding “My Antonia” to my living social page. One of the books, presumably published with the NEA Big Read seal spoke briefly about the program and I googled.

So, I will be picking up “My Antonia” by Willa Cather tonight, a book I have been intending to read since High School and feeling a little bit better about the part I’m playing preserve national culture. Maybe you could do the same??

I know Good Daddies. I have one myself. He’s also a good Grandpa. He takes beautiful picture like this of small children.

He’s played Santa Claus. He is constantly on an adventure and the kids flock to him and follow him the rats after the pied piper. He lets kids plant M&Ms in the garden and encourages them to think something will grow. But this isn’t about my Good Daddy (and the girls Good Grandpa) this is about the good Daddy who lives with me.

The Daddy to the girlies. A Very. Good. Daddy.

A Good Daddy can be a lot of things. What he is changes from house to house.

In our house, he’s not afraid to be silly to make a small person just a little happier. He has a lot of patience (the only one who does). He loves big because that’s how he does things.

He plays Pretty Pretty Princess (but does NOT allow pictures of that one) and he wears his Doc Martin’s to the beach (but only becuase his fancy schmancy yuppie sandals got left at home).

He encourages our girls to be their own people, to question authority, to be smart and he does the most important Good Daddy thing of all. He loves the girlies mother.

With just a few weeks left before Baby Bee is born, my energy level is pretty much on zero so we’ll be using some pre-made meals and easy favorites for our weekly menus.

Monday
Chicken and Veggie risotto.
There’s really no recipe for this. I cook up some chicken and make the risotto according to package directions. Then when everything is cooked, I toss it all together. Everyone loves it and it’s pretty easy and healthy too.

Tuesday
Oven “fried” chicken, veggies and rice

Wednesday
Southwest salad with chicken with fresh bread and watermelon

Thursday
Bunco
ravioli with sauce, garlic bread and green beans

Friday
Pizza night!

Saturday
usually on the run

Sunday
Father’s Day. Big Daddy will get his cheesecake, but the dinner menu will be left up to him
