Precious and Priceless and pretty too

This was my Grandma’s.  It sat in her house.  She made two of these; this one in blue and white and another in traditional green.    I loved this tree when I was a little girl.  Adored it and when my Grandpa said I could take anything I liked when he moved from his house THIS tree was what I wanted.  It reminds me of my Grandma and Christmas at her house and being little.

Last year, I didn’t put it out.  I felt so completely overwhelmed  by the burden of putting out the heirlooms that I had ended up collecting from so many deaths that I left them all packed away.  It was too much and too hard to lay out the things that reminded me of so many people and only see them for the joy and not the sadness that had brought them to me.

BUt this year, I feel different. I feel better and my tree?  My Grandmother’s beautiful tree has resumed it’s place of honor in my home and in my heart.  No more sadness. Just happy, happy memories.

Pussy cat, pussy cat where have you been?

Yeah, so a few weeks ago Big Daddy’s check card number was stolen and we were buying porn for some guy from some company in Europe?  So, Big Daddy canceled his check card nd got sent a new one.

But our hosting?  It was paid on the old card and we forgot that and then went away for turkey day and then realized our sites were down.

Heh.

Never a dull moment around this joint.

Last night, I stuffed the advent calendar.  I tucked in little slips of paper (you can print our December activities from Google docs..) and two Hershey kisses.    Today, Littlebit opened two weeks worth of doors and stole all of the candy out of them.  Now, the Advent calendar is sitting on top of the entertainment center.  There was much crying and gnashing of teeth, but we’re being festive DAMMIT.

Cuppity-cake

I did make the yummy dessert, it’s Joy the Bakers 12 cupcakes, one stick of butter recipe.  They are lovely and delicious and were so easy to make I don’t think I’ll ever buy Duncan Hines again.  Seriously.

Half of my “secondary” Christmas decorations are up.  My entertainment center garland now needs tweeking thanks to the advent calendar being unceremoniously dumped up there, but it’s all coming together.

This is my most FAVORITE time of year.

Countdown to Christmas-Weekly Recap

I love Christmas. Really.  It’s my favorite time of year.  I love nothing more than Christmas.   Well, besides Big Daddy and the Girls.  ;o)  Christmas is a big deal to me and I work super hard to make sure that I walk the line between making sure I relax and enjoy my holiday and having all the little loose ends accounted for so things are perfect.

Tree trimming 2008

This week, I spent some time making lists

Most importantly, I wrote out and updated a Calendar that counts me down to the holiday season (you can view it at Google Docs too).

People always ask why people like me start so early?  It’s not even December.  Don’t I know it, but making our holiday the best it can be takes time and effort.

Christmas 2003

Christmas 2003

This year, we’re trying something new as well.  Each Friday, we watch a movie and have pizza.  Thanks to an awesome idea I discovered in the blog-o-sphere, I’ve started making a themed treat to match the movie we’re watching. Starting the Friday after Thanksgiving, we’re having a Holiday Film Festival complete with treats.  Here’s what it looks like

Friday November 27th

White Christmas and snowmen on a stick and rice krispie treat snowmen

Friday, December 4th

Christmas Vacation egg nog and gingerbread snots (or dogs.  Like, you know, the one with the Mississippi leg hound in him?  This is only funny if you know the movie.)

Friday, December 11th

Fred Claus and Claus Cupcakes

Friday, December 18th

The Santa Clause (we might even do a marathon and watch one and two) and Bakerella’s Reindeer Cake Pops

Wall Art

Giant A in the dining room.  Loving everything but the brown outline.  Hodge podged edge marking looks great in scrapbooking but needs some help when the project in question is two feet tall…

Thinking I need to touch that up with straight lines.

Also, loving the Princess’s vinyl wall chalkboard from Back40Life.
